The Lack of Faith

 Mk 6:1-6

A Prophet Without Honor

Jesus left there and went to his hometown, accompanied by his disciples. When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed.

“Where did this man get these things?” they asked. “What’s this wisdom that has been given him? What are these remarkable miracles he is performing? Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him.

Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town, among his relatives and in his own home.” He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them. He was amazed at their lack of faith.

Jesus Sends Out the Twelve

Then Jesus went around teaching from village to village.

If Jesus were to come to our town today, would he be be amazed at the lack of faith he would find? Granted there are "pockets" of faith and fervor, but a Sunday morning trip to the mall, a stadium or the beach would reveal more people than would be in the pews. Even in his own hometown, he was ignored. What does it take to stir our faith into practice? We are a people who RESIST, who look for excuses, or who are just plain lazy.  It's time to wake up and "turn to' as the Navy would put it, and give Jesus the honored place in our daily lives that he deserves.  Sunday is certainly his day. Let's give it to him.

Bro. Rene

Dear Jesus, help me to give you at least one hour today. Amen.
