Mt 11:20-24
Woe on Unrepentant Towns
20 Then Jesus began to denounce the towns in which most of his miracles had been performed, because they did not repent. 21 “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. 22 But I tell you, it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you. 23 And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted to the heavens? No, you will go down to Hades. For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Sodom, it would have remained to this day. 24 But I tell you that it will be more bearable for Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.”
Mount Carmel overlooks the Mediterranean Sea and as such is a natural place for contemplating God and the beauty of his creation. There was a monastery founded in the 13th century on this mountain and St. Simon Stock is noted for promoting the wearing of a brown piece of cloth known as a scapular given to him by the Blessed Virgin as a sign of devotion to her and abandonment to her loving care in the on-going battle with the Evil One. It remains popular today, and rightly so, as we witness the spread of evil and moral decay. May we find extra time for prayer and ask Our Lady of Mount Carmel to reconnect us to her Son and return to an active practice of our Faith.
Bro. Rene
Pray for us, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, that we might restore Jesus to his rightful place in our lives. Amen..
