Mt 13:44-46
The Parables of the Hidden Treasure and the Pearl
44 “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.
45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. 46 When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.
Three short verses, two simple parables, but a mountain of meaning. Do we value the kingdom of heaven, modeled and described by Jesus as generous giving of self in service to others, yes even to laying it down for others? Discovering that treasure is like finding the pearl of great price for which we would sell all, sacrifice all to have. But it's not that easy, evidently, for us or anybody. How many people do you know who have sold everything to invest in the one thing that matters, the Kingdom of God? How can I shift my priorities to focus on the Kingdom, the living and spreading God's Word? We can't do it alone, God's help, grace, the example of others are needed. The kingdom, God's Way, is worth the price.
Bro. Rene
Dear God, help me to "sell all" to buy the field or the pearl and make your kingdom the focus of my life. Amen
