Put the Word Into Practice

 

 Luke 11:27-28

Hear and Do

 ²⁷ As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out, “Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you.”

²⁸ He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.

With his short answer, also translated as "observe it", Jesus sanctions action over passive hearing. This is THE challenge for today and our lives. How can we, I,  best put into practice all that Jesus has taught, all that God has revealed from the 10 Commandments to the Two Great Commandments: love of God and love of neighbor? Servant of God, Chiara Lubich puts it this way: "Let us remember that every day has value insofar as we have assimilated the Word within us. Christ will live in us and he will give value to the works we accomplish, whether directly or through our prayers and sufferings. In the end these are the works that will follow us into everlasting life. (cf. Rv 14: 13).
