John 13:16-20
16 Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 17 Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.
Jesus Predicts His Betrayal
18 “I am not referring to all of you; I know those I have chosen. But this is to fulfill this passage of Scripture: ‘He who shared my bread has turned against me.’
19 “I am telling you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe that I am who I am. 20 Very truly I tell you, whoever accepts anyone I send accepts me; and whoever accepts me accepts the one who sent me.”
We are appalled and disgusted with the betrayal of Jesus by Judas, but today's passage calls us all to accept Jesus, not on our terms, but on his. Judas was looking for a leader to overthrow the Romans and restore Israel as a sovereign nation. Not God's plan. And we know "the rest of the story", as Paul Harvey was wont to say. Ours is to accept Jesus and his mission to save us and give us the opportunity to be faithful disciples who would carry on his mission and eventually enjoy eternal life with him. Not an easy task, that's why our daily prayer for strength to carry out this mission faithfully is paramount.
Bro. Rene
Lord, thank you for the call to be one of your faithful followers who keep your words and mission before us always, even when distraction or discouragement attack us Amen.
