Luke 12: 54-59
Interpreting the Time
54 He also said to the crowds, “When you see a cloud rising in the west, you say at once, ‘A shower is coming.’ And so it happens. 55 And when you see the south wind blowing, you say, ‘There will be scorching heat,’ and it happens. 56 You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of earth and sky, but why do you not know how to interpret the present time?
Settle with Your Accuser
57 “And why do you not judge for yourselves what is right? 58 As you go with your accuser before the magistrate, make an effort to settle with him on the way, lest he drag you to the judge, and the judge hand you over to the officer, and the officer put you in prison. 59 I tell you, you will never get out until you have paid the very last penny.”
The daily headlines and newscasts give us a grim picture of the of our times. Almost daily shootings, half the world starving, inflation skyrocketing, political mud-slinging, moral principles squelched by dishonesty and greed...the list can go on and on. We don't have to be geniuses to see that something is amiss. It's time to rise up and restore order, to put the lessons and values that Jesus gave us into practice in our circles and contacts with others. Jesus conquered evil and sin by his death and resurrection; ours it to extend that victory into our daily lives and actions. One little step, one little action at at time and eventually things will shift to the positive, affirming and life-giving. Let this movement begin today with you and me!
Bro. Rene
All-knowing God,
we see all around us the signs of your will in our lives. At times it
may be difficult for us to recognize for ourselves what those signs
point us towards. Grant us the grace we need in order to know your will,
the wisdom to understand it, and the strength to carry it out. May our
efforts to know your will lead us not into pride and self-importance,
but give us an ever greater love for you, who reigns for ever and ever.
Amen.
