Keep It Simple

Increase Our Faith | The Heaton File

Luke 17 5-10

The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!”

He replied, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it will obey you.

“Suppose one of you has a servant plowing or looking after the sheep. Will he say to the servant when he comes in from the field, ‘Come along now and sit down to eat’? Won’t he rather say, ‘Prepare my supper, get yourself ready and wait on me while I eat and drink; after that you may eat and drink’? Will he thank the servant because he did what he was told to do? 10 So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.’”

Don't we often feel inadequate when we look at all we have to do or WANT to do.  The days speed by, we allow distractions to divert us from our daily goals, needs, or obligations and we wonder how God can put up with us.  Jesus indicates here that we don't have to be mountain movers, but like the servants, simply do our duty as unworthy servants.  Yes, Lord, increase my faith, and help me do the best I can with a humble and simple sense of duty, trust and love,

Bro. Rene

Let us not boast, Lord God, about our accomplishments in your service. What good we have done has been due to your help, grace, and inspiration. Let us be aware of your assistance through fidelity, honesty, courage, and faith. If we are at peace both with ourselves and with others, it is due mainly to your help in keeping us from bitterness, hate, or jealousy. Let our kindness to others reflect your kindness to us. Amen.
