Igniting Our World

 

Luke 12: 40-53
⁴⁹ “I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! ⁵⁰ But I have a baptism to undergo, and what constraint I am under until it is completed! ⁵¹ Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division. ⁵² From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three. ⁵³ They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.”

Strong words: fire, division, families at war with each other.  What?  Is this the God of Peace?  Our "loving God"?  There is an urgency here, we cannot sit back and "let it happen"; we need to take a fiery, passionate initiative to MAKE IT HAPPEN!  No room for complacency, but passion, zeal, courage and sacrifice must guide us if we are to spread the message of Jesus effectively to as many people we can; we must be a forest afire.  We must teach, motivate and ignite others.  We must allow God to ignite us!  "Come Holy Spirit, fill us with the fire of thy love!"

Father all-powerful, you sent the Holy Spirit into the world to set our hearts on fire. May the grace we receive through your Spirit help us to heal the divisions that separate us from our brothers and sisters. Help us to be zealous advocates of your undying love for humanity, so that all people will work to make you known, loved, and served. We make this prayer through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
