Small But Powerful

My Reflections...: Reflection for October 29, Tuesday; Thirtieth Week ...

 Luke 13: 18-21

The Mustard Seed and the Leaven

18 He said therefore, “What is the kingdom of God like? And to what shall I compare it? 19 It is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his garden, and it grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air made nests in its branches.”

20 And again he said, “To what shall I compare the kingdom of God? 21 It is like leaven that a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, until it was all leavened.”

Small is beautiful, small is powerful. The kingdom of God grows in us from our daily prayer, our daily living of the Gospel as best we can, and as we grow in spiritual stature, we inspire others to do the same.  Let us not underestimate the power of "little things", small acts of kindness, a simple word of encouragement, a listening ear...these are our leaven, these are our mustard seeds.  Not rocket science, as the expression goes, but powerful enough to help build the kingdom of God.

Bro. Rene

Dear Lord, when time drags on and prayers go unanswered; when our hard work seems so futile; when we wonder what difference we’re making, remind us of the mustard seed. Though it appears so insignificant, so incapable of bringing forth life, we know it finds its purpose and serves magnificently. Bless us with great possibilities and increase our faith in your presence in all we do. Amen.
