Note: I will be in Pittsburgh for the Confirmation of one of my Godsons, Marcellin and his brother, David. Not sure if I will be able to compose slices of Daily Bread on Sunday and Monday. If not, they will appear again on Tuesday
Luke 12: 8-12
The Holy Spirit Will Teach Us
8 “I tell you, whoever publicly acknowledges me before others, the Son of Man will also acknowledge before the angels of God. 9 But whoever disowns me before others will be disowned before the angels of God. 10 And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.
11 “When you are brought before synagogues, rulers and authorities, do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say, 12 for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say.”
So far, there's no danger for us to defend ourselves and our faith in public arenas, but often in conversations we back off and let the loudmouths who might not be as knowledgeable as we, dominate. It's not that we are blaspheming against the Holy Spirit, it's just that we are not standing up for the truth or our faith. How do we develop a confidence that will allow us to live and defend our faith in "the market place"? Time in prayer and trust in the Holy Spirit will give us the courage we need. After her awakening and realization that she was not fully living or taking seriously her life as a nun, St. Teresa of Avila make a huge turn around in her life, reformed her order and left writings that have helped countless others do the same. It can be done. Just ask, and the Holy Spirit will teach us what to do and how to do it.
