God's Abundant Love

Rich are the images presented by the prophet Isaiah as he describes the mountain on which God pours out his largesse in the form of rich food and splendid, choice wines for the peoples whom he has saved.  There are no tears there, and the veil that has separated people no longer exists.  It is the ideal place of happiness. (cf. Is 25:6-10a). Today's Gospel tells of Jesus healing all who came to him, again on a mountain side, and even feeding them till they were full from seven loaves and a few fishes.  There is no limit, no boundaries, no discrimination; all benefit from his abundant love.
As we reflect during this first week of Advent, let these images impact us and impress on us forever God's super, abundant, "over the top", love which he longs to share with us.  This is the love that we are preparing to receive at Christmas with the birth of Jesus, Love made flesh, God made human.  It's all freely given, it's ours for the taking. Let Isaiah's optimistic promises feed us, encourage us, even urge us to use these days of Advent to prepare for and better appreciate God's greatest gift and sign of his love, Jesus the Christ.
