The Tide Will Turn

Luke 6: 20-26

The Beatitudes

20 And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said:

“Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.

21 “Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you shall be satisfied.

“Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.

22 “Blessed are you when people hate you and when they exclude you and revile you and spurn your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man! 23 Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for so their fathers did to the prophets.

Jesus Pronounces Woes

24 “But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation.

25 “Woe to you who are full now, for you shall be hungry.

We get a glimpse of the "Jesus World" from Luke's short version of the Beatitudes: what seems to be negative becomes positive, a curse becomes a blessing. We lose sight of this when we are hungry or weeping, when things are not going our way. Jumping our of our "pity pot" and looking for the blessing God wants to give us, or the lesson he wants to teach us, helps give perspective to what we are going through. Yes, blessed are we hungry and poor, for God will satisfy us in a way no earthly person or situation can.

Bro. Rene

Dear God help me to find the blessing  behind what seems to be a curse. Amen.
