The Power of the Cross

 John 3: 13-17

No Greater Love

13 No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven—the Son of Man.14 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, 15 that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.”

16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

As we celebrate the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross we transform the ignominy of the crucifixion of Jesus on a cross, the most degrading form of execution in Roman Times, to a major celebration of triumph and glory. The instrument of death becomes the throne of the Victor over sin. Death is conquered and eternal life is gained and made accessible to us. We honor our homes, classrooms and certainly our churches with crucifixes and we begin and end our prayers with this sign of love and victory. Let us look upon the cross as the glorious sign of our redemption and of Jesus's immense love for us.

Bro. Rene

Dear Jesus, as we celebrate the Exaltation of the Holy Cross may we rejoice in and express our gratitude for your death on the cross, and for the privilege to carry our own crosses each day. Amen.
