We Are His Witneses

(note: 4 slices appeared the afternoon of May 24. Let's se when this one appears.).

Luke 24: 46-53

46 and said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, 47 and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things. 49 And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”

The Ascension

50 And he led them out as far as Bethany, and lifting up his hands he blessed them. 51 While he blessed them, he parted from them and was carried up into heaven. 52 And they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, 53 and were continually in the temple blessing God.

Only a few Dioceses in the United States are observing the Ascension of the Lord on the tradional Thursday. Most will wait till next Sunday when more people might be present at Mass. For us, this is the Ascension of the Lord, his departure physicaly from us and the beginninf of the Era of the Holy Spirit which begins in ten days on Pentecost. We have a nine day, interim, a  novena, in the meanitime to prepare for Pentecost. Let us first use these nine days to ask for the Spirit to come into our lives and into the world at large. Tuesday's school shooting is another instance of a society gone crazy, a society without God , which breeds the thinking (or lack of it) that fosters such total disregard for others. Let us pray fervently betwen now and Pentecost for a strong and widespread outpouring of the Holy Spirit!
