Matthew 28: 16-20
The Great Commission
16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
As we celebrate the Solemnity of the Holy Trinity, accepting on faith the mystery of three divine persons comprising One God, despite our doubts, we are called "to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Trinity and teaching them to obey all that Jesus has commanded us." A huge task but for 2000 years the "people of God" have not relented from carrying out this mission. In our time as in all times past, this requires a sincere and steadfast commitment from each of us. May our gatherings at our churches strengthen our belief in the Trinity and reinforce our desire to make the Trinity known and loved through our words and actions. We are not alone. God is with us always.
