Matthew 10: 1-7
The Twelve Apostles
10 Then Jesus summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to cure every disease and every sickness. 2 These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon, also known as Peter, and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee and his brother John; 3 Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus and Thaddaeus; 4 Simon the Cananaean and Judas Iscariot, the one who betrayed him.
The Mission of the Twelve
5 These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: “Do not take a road leading to gentiles, and do not enter a Samaritan town, 6 but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7 As you go, proclaim the good news, ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’
As the Twelve were mission-ed to proclaim the Good News,, so are we. Some to devote their entire lives to not only teaching, but also by living what Jesus proclaimed. There is salvation, there is hope for all who accept his words, his way of life, his way of relating with one another. It's a life of simplicity, generosity, forgiveness, trust and obedience to the Father's will. A look at the world today gives us a pasture of what happens when we follow Jesus and when we don't; There are pockets of people who live what Jesus taught and enjoy a peaceful and loving life. For those who don't, the news papers and news broadcasts show them to us daily. They are not happy nor do they bring happiness to others. May our daily prayer keep us faithful to Jesus and pmoved to reach out in some way to these people, created and loved by God as we are, but who don't as yet know nor accept him. It's a life-long endless aim but part of the package of being a follower of Jesus. The 12 accepted their mission, can we?
