Matthew 5: 13-16

Salt and Light

13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.

14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Just two days back into Ordinary Time, and Jesus reminds us that we have a mission:  to be his seasoning and his light in a world that otherwise would be flat  and dark. As we read of the atrocities in the Ukraine, and of the daily  (almost) shootings in this country, we have admit that the powers of darkness are overshadowing the powers of light.  We must be the light that overcomes this darkness if we remain faithful t our daily reflection on God's Word, and pray along with others that we might keep the flame of faith and love alive in our lives and pray for the grace to share it with others.  We can't do it alone, we need the support of one another.  Let's begin there, TODAY!
