Go Into All The World

 Mark 16: 15-20

The Ascension; Our Mission

15 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”

19 After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God. 20 Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.

We celebrate the Ascension of Jesus, his return to the Father and the commission handed to all of us to continue carry on the spreading of the Good News he came to teach us.  A formidable task, yet, with the presence of the Holy Spirit as our strength and our guide, the followers of Jesus have been faithful to it for 2,000 years!  Little by little we do our best to teach the Gospel by example and by word, even with that occasional butterfly in our stomachs or intimidated by our own failings or feeling of unworthiness.  This Gospel passage reminds us that we have a job to do and the means to carry it out.  Let us proceed with confidence knowing that we are not alone.

Bro.. Rene

Dear Jesus, help me to accept and carry out the task you have given to me  to be your witness in word and action. Amen
