Jesus Sighed Deeply

(Note: Somehow our slice was published yesterday.   Let's see what happens today!)

Mark 8: 11-13

Seeking a Sign

11 The Pharisees came and began to question Jesus. To test him, they asked him for a sign from heaven. 12 He sighed deeply and said, “Why does this generation ask for a sign? Truly I tell you, no sign will be given to it.” 13 Then he left them, got back into the boat and crossed to the other side.

As we celebrate St. Valentine's Day with cards, flowers, other gifts and dinners "out", we do not think of Jesus sighing deeply in exasperation as he is again confronted by the Pharisees. In a sense he is THE Valentine, Love itself, yet some did not see him this way. May our Valentine's cards, good wishes and kindnesses to each other today overshadow the absence of love so evident in our world. May our love and faith-in-action replace the sigh of Jesus (and others) with a smile!
