Reaching Out

Note:  Bro. Rene's Daily Bread has been published for 11 years.  Recently a group of friends suggested compiling a volume with the Best of the Bread which can be used for each date of the year, and thus not for any specific year.  I am looking for suggestions for slices that might have appealed to you so much that you have stored them for future reference...If this is the case, would you be willing to share them with me so that I might consider them for this book?  Would be a jump start for this project.  Thank you... Bro. Rene

Gospel: Luke 6: 6-11

Healing on the Sabbath

Now it happened on another Sabbath, also, that He entered the synagogue and taught. And a man was there whose right hand was withered. So the scribes and Pharisees watched Him closely, whether He would heal on the Sabbath, that they might find an accusation against Him. But He knew their thoughts, and said to the man who had the withered hand, “Arise and stand here.” And he arose and stood. Then Jesus said to them, “I will ask you one thing: Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or [a]to destroy?” 10 And when He had looked around at them all, He said to [b]the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And he did so, and his hand was restored [c]as whole as the other. 11 But they were filled with rage, and discussed with one another what they might do to Jesus.

Several times in his ministry, Jesus "broke" the sabbath law of "no work" to heal or comfort others.  To him, the "Law of Charity" easily superseded the "letter of the law, but  to the pharisees, it was an outrageous act of disobedience and desecration.  We might have a similar problem in reaching out to help, risking our reputation or our security to help another. May the example of Jesus provide the fuel and motivation we need to take that risk.
