Eloquent Preachers

As we celebrate the Memorial of St. Dominic, founder of the Order of Preachers, more popularly known as Dominicans,  may we find encouragement in knowing that, "one of our own", CCHS and Providence College graduate,  Joseph Graziano, is receiving the habit of the Dominicans today and receiving a "new name", one by which he will be known in religious life. He is joined by 19 others who will also become novices today.  St. Dominic not only preached against heretics in the 13th century, he continues to inspire others to follow in his footsteps today, as he did then.
The special charism of  the Dominicans is preaching, a preaching based on prayer, and intense study of the Scriptures and theology. St. Thomas Aquinas, the "Angelic Doctor", is a familiar example of how this formula can be most effective.
Let us pray for these young men who are at the beginning of their lives as eloquent preachers, like their founder, for all who preach the Gospel in word an deed, and let us pray that our words and actions might also be simple but eloquent witnesses to what the power of God has done in us and can do for all who listen attentively to the promptings of the Holy Spirit and to the words and actions of others.
