Things To Avoid

  Luke 21:34-36

Be Watchful

34 “Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap. 35 For it will come on all those who live on the face of the whole earth. 36 Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”

In two short verses, Jesus sets the tone for the end of the  Liturgical Year and the beginning of Advent: "Be watchful, be alert." The daily news, our own busy lives, the endless "things to do list", all present challenges to Jesus's admonition to "Be Watchful."  He warns us not to let these things interfere with our goal of preparing ourselves to receive him. Advent is such a  time of preparation;; what can I do to makes the best of it, to prepare myself for the birth of Jesus?

 Bro. Rene

Dear God, help me to use the season of Advent to prepare my heart for your birth at Christmas. Amen.
