The Bread of Life

 Jn 6:30-35

A Lasting Sign

30 So they asked him, “What sign then will you give that we may see it and believe you? What will you do? 31 Our ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written: ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’”

32 Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”

34 “Sir,” they said, “always give us this bread.”

35 Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirst."

Jesus knew that we need bread for the journey of life. What better food than his own flesh and blood in the outward form of bread and wine?  The holy sacrifice of the Mass is offered daily, making the bread of life conveniently available to us. If we cannot attend daily Mass, then we can at least attend weekly on Sundays. What can be more important than partaking of the Bread of Life? Yet startling statistics indicate that Mass attendance is very low...in France, less than 10% of Catholics attend on Sundays. We have drifted from the Bread of Life and wonder why all the chaos in the world. Do we have to be "rocket scientists" to see the connection?  Let us get back on track and return to the altar of God and receive this life-giving Bread.

Bro. Rene

Dear Jesus, help me to be a faithful communicant and allow you to feed my soul with the Bread of Life as often as possible. Amen.
