Holy Saturday

 Mk 16:1-7

Jesus Has Risen

16 When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus’ body. Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb and they asked each other, “Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?”

But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away. As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed.

“Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.’”

Technical difficulties prevented today's slice of Daily Bread from appearing earlier. So here we are finally on Holy Saturday morning. Jesus is still in the tomb, but since there is no Mass, the Gospel is one of the Resurrection  narratives that will be used at the Easter Vigil. We might put off celebrating the Resurrection till tonight and concentrate on the feeling of defeat and loss that must have engulfed the Apostles. The brutal and swift condemnation and death of Jesus had them scared, and no doubt, reeling.  Three years with the Master and suddenly, all GONE. How would I have dealt with this? Has Lent brought me closer to Jesus and given me a stronger faith? Let me make time to sit outside the tomb and simply BE there to gather my thoughts and feelings.

Bro. Rene

Dear Jesus, thank you for your total gift of yourself to all of us; help us come to love and serve you even more as a result of our Lenten prayers and sacrifices. Amen.
