We can sometimes drag ourselves down by remembering the bad things we've done in the past, or by seeing the imperfections in our behavior even now. Jesus does not want us to beat ourselves up this way, but if we look back, see the good things we've done, and how he has been part of them. He invites us to walk forward with him in confidence, for he is our shepherd who will not allow us to want for anything. If we have the luxury of being near "restful waters" as some of us might have done this summer, we know how soothing it is to look across them and find peace in their wideness and color. If at the ocean. the blueness of the waters meets the blueness of the sky at the horizon and lifts us naturally up to the clouds where thoughts or God and peace assure us that indeed, God wants us to have this peace. Such reflections should help us banish the blemishes our mistakes have made and ready us to receive the good gifts that God can never be outdone in giving to us. Yes, may we move ahead in his love!
